Personally, very overrated game.
It isn't bad, but it was far off from my expectation.
It has nice graphics with soundtracks that's jazzy, and also quite f2p in some way. Though it does have nice character design, it kind of feels too generic in a way. It is beautifully done, but there isn't anything fresh with the design. I know story is set to early 20th century in most part and designs are bound to be limited, but still, it felt too generic.
Strategy part was heavily lacking than what I was expecting. It does get more complicated and more heavy on strategy at later parts, but it was kind of boring until I got there, and even when I got there, it was just too bland.
Also, not being able to choose MC gender was a very huge drawback for me, since I really can't immerse into the story if not male protagonist. I can understand their choice since MC comes with a voice and it saves their budget by doing so.
Story itself wasn't bad. Quite intriguing, actually. But I just couldn't get myself in it. Also, I really hate how they chopped up a story like a scissored spagetti, that it ends the chapter before I can actually try to get into reading the story. I'm pretty sure it won't take even a minute to read a single story map if it was just in text.
I would have gave this better rating if I hadn't had my hopes up, but I heard too much good things about this game and it disappointed me.

This game was designed for players who can't invest their time so the combat system is generally simple and the grind and F2P aspects are friendly. What's wrong with not being able to choose the MC's gender? Genshin Impact, while allowing you to pick your gender, doesn't affect the whole experience or plot that much, just some niche little details. The first few Chapters are lacking, indeed. But the latter Chapters are much better. This is a visual novel game, they're essentially novels with visualization, some animations, and voice acting, and since Reverse: 1999 is story-oriented, expecting grand aesthetic designs are unfounded. Your concern over short Chapters is confusing, to say the least, as I see no issue in it. Overall, the game is still "young" and has a long way to go, but personally, such a new game, especially since it's their (BluePoch) first game, did well. (PS: regarding the aesthetic, I find it unique as each character wears clothes relative to their time, place, culture, and personality. Reverse: 1999 doesn't aim for complex and busy design, each garment intends to tell you a story and convey the character. At first glimpse, they are simple, but as you zoom in, the details are appreciatable. I see this as a greatly balanced design)

I don't mean game is bad. I'm saying it is way too much overrated than what it actually is. I am aware that it gets better as player proceeds through the chapter, both with stories and strategy, but that does not make me like how they chopped up the stories into too small pieces to get immersed, at least in my standard. In of strategy, I was told that this was one of the best one, but it was just not bad. It was like walking into a nice restaurant just to find out that they only have double patty cheese burger on their menu. As for not being able to choose MC gender, I think I left it clear that it is purely out of my preference. If the charater had no voice, then maybe I would have been able to get myself more into it, since 'MC character' not having voice actually helps me get more immersed into the story as I can actually try to project myself into saying the line. I'm kind of a person who has to reflect myself into MC in order to enjoy my experience with the novel, and I just can't find myself getting into female MC, which has been the case for me for all my life. Just to be clear, I am no sexist. I just can't focus and that's it. Aesthetic wise, yes, they are done beautifully. They try to keep it in simple , instead of being busy. I am also not a huge fan of busy design characters only game, but this was also like getting served with only potato chips from a 3star Michelin restaurant. It is good, but it isn't what I expected to be served. Overall, great visual with generic designs whithout much of standout point (at least from my point), awesome music, nothing to complain about this, MC gender is just a preference issue, story is somewhat unique and great, but how they pace out the story and how little amout they serve per verse was pretty bad for me.
