Moth Lake: A Horror Story

Moth Lake: A Horror Story

Sui Arts
MoreSynopsis: This is the story of Moth Lake, a small town that, behind its peaceful facade, hides a terrible secret. Only a group of teenagers, with a difficult life, will reveal what has been hidden for generations. Mysterious events will intensify starting from the eve of a solar eclipse, and our young friends will start a journey into the shadow and into their own soul. What to expect from this game: In short: •2.5D pixel art (Frame to frame animations, as if we are still in '90s) • Simple controls (ing touch screen, mouse, keyboard and controllers) • Unconventional puzzles (Don't worry, there's a free walkthrough if you need help!) • Stealth-action • Choices that will change the bonds between the characters as well as the spirit of the experience (Just like in life, a choice can make the difference between friendship, love, hate, life or death) • Thrills, suspense and horror (Not a survival game, but it can be creepy or scary at times) • Bad humor and strong language (They are teenagers, don't judge them) • At some point this experience might even move you to tear (I'm not crying, I just got a pixel in my eye) • 6 different endings • A soundtrack that is original, suggestive, and exciting In detail: Moth Lake is a story-driven experience, with a lot of textual contents (more than 20k words), and hundreds of different scenes (more than 300 scenarios). The script is a long journey through a mystery, through horrors and through the characters hearts. It contains dark topics and very sad stuff, but also a lot of non-sense jokes and weird conversations, so it's hard to say whether it is a horror game or not. The main characters move around a 2.5D world, interacting with many hotspots and NPCs. They can pull objects and perform a set of specific actions to solve very different puzzles. The artwork is a modern pixel art, with a big colour palette and a lot of frame-to-frame animations. There's a very large set of animations, including talking, walking, running, crouching, crawling, pushing, climbing, sneaking, punching, throwing... and much more. Scenarios have some modern lighting/shading work, with particles effects and a constant use of parallax, to simulate a 3D environment. There are 6 main characters and more than 50 NPCs, with their own look and personality. You can control 7 characters through the main story and more in the additional chapters. They all move their eyes, they change facial expressions, and they have some peculiar behaviours. As the story proceeds, the player has to take some choices, affecting the characters mood and sometimes even the plot. Characters with a good mood are always smiling, they perform funny idle animations and they help each other. On the other hand, characters with a bad mood show an angry face, they insult their friends and they are generally edgy and selfish. The general mood can even unlock hidden scenes, and personally I would play this game multiple times just to see these little details. For most of the time the player controls a character surrounded by his/her friends. Each one has some kind of skill to be used at the right moment, and sometimes even their personality will be important to solve a puzzle. Some puzzles can be solved by a single character, while other must be solved using the whole squad cooperation. As I said, the game aims to give psychological horror vibes. So keep in mind that this game is not for everyone! Some scenes are disturbing, some scenes may give you anxiety, and some other scenes are extremely sad. Characters are constantly called to face their difficult past, and to go through their scary present. They need to hide, to take terrible decisions and sometimes even to fight for their lives. ...But after all, your choices can lead you to the best possible ending, and if you fail, you can always try again.

This game was almost perfect, featuring a horror story with unique characters, a questionable sense of humor (which, for me, is a good point), great graphics, and atmosphere. However, what heavily impacted the overall rating of this game was the ending. It seemed rushed, not allowing the player enough time to truly feel the emotion. Anyway, it was a great experience playing it, and I would recommend it.

It didn't look so good at first, but when it was shown the exchange of characters I got hooked, each one has its own ability, the puzzles are more dynamic, like in the cemetery where it was well used. well-animated design of the creatures and very expressive faces convey the terror in the scene very well. This new story is very interesting with the union of the worlds as each one has a pending problem and that comes to haunt at certain times it was cool. I hope it continues.

It bothers me that games like this are being slept on. zZz

It is another horror game but it is based on storytelling and decision-making by the player. I am looking forward to playing horror games like this because I can take a break during the reading and engage again with the spooky during the scenarios or cut scenes. The game is a story-driven survival mode that revolves or moves around a 2.5D animated world that requires interacting with the game environment and Non-player characters (NPC). The game's visuals are very tight and neat but I think it requires additional framing to smoothen out transitions or overlays. I love how the game implements Mood indicators that are similar to other games' energy levels or compatibility gauges. In-game decisions decide the mood of the characters and decide the events in the game and what could be done.

Moth Lake proved to me that horror can work just as well on mobile platforms as it does on bigger screens, even if it has a few issues that could be improved. In this game, I took on the role of a group of teenagers living in a creepy small town. They love sneaking out at night, even though it often leads to them seeing terrifying otherworldly sights. Having grown up in a small town myself, playing Moth Lake woke up memories of sneaking out late at night during sleepovers with my friends. We would walk the deserted streets at well after midnight, wander over the lake or the cemetery, and let our imaginations run wild with spooky stuff.

Gives me chills and a thrilling game experience

If you're looking for a horror game with a thrilling atmosphere, good story and music, then this game is for you. One thing that I like about this game is that it offers different kinds of stories for you to explore and it also has immersive gameplay wherein you can outrun and hide from the monster and you can test your problem-solving skills with its challenging puzzles.

Back to the 90's horror

Deifinitely a good story game, the visuals give a retro feel and the sound is accompanied by a dynamic soundtrack, however, there are still a lot of texts involved in the gameplay.  Very atmospheric and environmental. In this game, you will need to interact with various hotspots and solve puzzles in order to complete a series of tasks. You may need to run or hide in order to survive, but if you fail and die, you can simply restart the scene because the game saves at each scene.

I knew I wasn't supposed to play this at night.

I bet you can't play this one alone and at night! This game will give you chills. You have to avoid and hide from the monster. To find the puzzle you are looking for, you have to run or hide to survive the game. I've been surprised so many times and saw the monster appear in front of me. I wasn't able to sleep well last night *ugh*. Play at your own risk.
